"I think a man ought to get drunk at least twice a year just on principle, so he won't let himself get snotty about it."
Raymond Chandler (1888-1959)
Quite so, my dear Raymond, well said. But only twice a year? Twice a week would be more like it, surely?

Totally unrelated to this thread, but the Pogues last night was good. Not awesomely good, but a very good show...
Honestly, I am really torn on it.
It was great - no doubt. But I am saddened that I never sore them back when McGowan was sober enough to write, talk to the audience in a semi-comprehensible manner, and play an entire show. He was on stage for probably 60% of the time, and is noticeably carried by the band. He missed lyrics and cues, and wandered off stage regularly leaving the band to play without him.
I also was a bit annoyed with the crowd. McGowan's stumbling was apparently to some the main reason for the show - the entertainment's center. Rather than being a poet, to them he was a clown. And that is bad.
Quite so.
But I'm not sure that it was ever otherwise. Except perhaps in their very early days.
I saw them for the first time round about 1985, and he was an unreliable mess even then.
