In addition to being Chinese National Day, I learn that this year October 1st is also Eid ul-Fitr, the Muslim festival that marks the end of Ramadan.
A happy holiday to all my Muslim readers!!

I may have been a little late with this greeting.
I gather that, since the holiday is set by the phases of the moon, it actually falls a day earlier in some parts of the world.
And the really big blow-out happens the evening before, breaking fast on the last day of Ramadan. So, main feasting in China may have been on the 28th - not sure. I haven't been out much over the last few days, so I haven't been able to check out the activity in my favourite Muslim haunts. I did, however, visit 'The Muslim' for some chuanr this evening: nothing special going on there tonight, but the boss was looking very, very tired.
Er, I meant the 29th.
Whatever. I think the party goes on for a while.
