With the current supply of alcohol in my apartment, we'll be living the good life for quite a while ...

Well, of course, it depends what you mean by 'good'. (Sorry, I was brought up on Plato.)

On the most practical level, Franklin might have been meant simply the availability of drinking water; though I suspect he was thinking of the pleasure of life, but not taken to excess, and focused on the conviviality of drinking rather than its mind-numbing effects.

I don't think 'free' alcohol or solo drinking are elements of 'the good'.
