Amid the hubbub
Of the milling party crowds,
Sadness wells silently.

I think for me it's the opposit. (If I have understood it correctly). If I am sad, no party helps, or might even make it worse to see others all "happy".

If what you write is what should be understood from the poem, then I have understood it the opposit way.
the word "wells" I have understood as "gets better".

yes, what I write is what I understand the Haiku to mean.

I understand "wells" as in the sadness pours out or overflows...

He's captured the feeling intensely.
