Tomorrow is the 5th Anniversary of my arrival in Beijing. This is such a momentous event that I feel I must announce it on both my blogs.
I have just discovered that, by an alarming cosmic coincidence, it is also the 5th Anniversary of the arrival here of my best drinking buddy, The Choirboy (though I didn't get to know him until a year or two later).
In fact, several of our friends are also reaching this landmark at some point over the next few weeks.
I think A PARTY is in order.....

enjoy the party...think about where is home? then have a shot of tequilla
For the love of God, no tequila...
Froog - have you ever discovered the Leaping Lizard in Old Town? Spent a pleasant evening there a few weeks back with a new drinking compadre, quaffing 40's and shots of rail bourbon. My God I felt bad the next day...
Er, is that the 'Blues bar' just off King?
I think I've only been there once, and during the day - doesn't really count.
There are many 'holes' in Old Town I have yet to discover. I look forward to you introducing me next time.
Nope. The blues place is much classier. This is genuine dive. Cheap, sells forties for the love of god, and populated by the tattooed and pierced.
Pool table too, though I did not check its quality. Very very very very very cute asian baretenderess, who seemed to have the perfect ability to flirt outrageously with every customer yet not let you see her flirt with anyone else.
That of course was bartenderess. Somewhat of a Freudian slip, methinks.
OK BC - no tequilla eh? and what has kept you from blogging on your own? froog does all the work? Hmmm....
and....dive bars with pool tables are sorely lacking in my current environment. I am suffering on a leather couch in a VERY loud chic bar (which happens to get internet wifi, and I'm enough of a geek to be reading froog's blog while I drink)
Ah, is the Lizard the stand-up comedy club at the other end of King? I have been in there once or twice, but not for years.
Are you back in Edinburgh now, Weasley?
Last night I was popping meng jiu, the local equivalent of tequila.... and have a slightly distressed stomach this morning. Not a hangover, you understand, just a wobbly stomach...
I am back in Edinburgh. Arrived 12 hours ago, but my luggage is still in Manchester....so thrift store shopping in the morning seems to be the best plan.
A fellow traveler from the states, who is a very young 20, asked me to please take her to a "club" or "bar", so we went to a VERY loud, hip place that was playing 80's American music, but she was in heaven. I encouraged her to go up to the bar on her own and order a Stella, she did, she was grinning ear to ear. I felt old, but wise.
As an extra special treat, I will be taking her to the Brass Monkey in old town tomorrow. A bit more my speed. he clientel is also a bit more likely to be my age.
Cowboy, surely it's called The Laughing Lizard?
Have you checked out the Rock-It Grill yet? Decent burgers and generous happy hours.
Yes - Laughing Lizard. I was very drunk. I rest my case.
