New Picks of the Month

Delving back into the archives again... what was I wittering about in the run-up to Christmas '09?

Well, on Froogville, this post has a special place in my heart: Go out and buy! - an unlikely anecdote of my father's.
[However, in a brisk month of posting - essential catharsis, following on from a particularly anxious change of apartments - I also quite like Why my packing took so long, this observation on a strange and vexing kitchen accident, this Classical pun, and this grapple with a Latin motto. On a more serious note, I would also recommend revisiting The leaders leave first and Don't be a Chinese child - two posts marking the 15th anniversary of the Karamay theatre fire tragedy.]

On The Barstool, I have to nominate Little Frank (A Christmas Tale) - one of my most emotional China stories.

FROOG. A long time to maintain a site. I hope you leave it up there rather than hit the kill button.

So, you are moving on from legal matters in Sino-land.

I've always had a hankering to be an international gun runner.

A new career worth considering.

I nurture a 'Lawrence of Arabia' fantasy - roaming around the wildernesses of the far west here, and teaching the natives how to blow up trains.

Not sure where I'll be heading next. The only job prospects that seem to come up for me are still in China (though at least outside of Beijing), but I am trying to resist them.

Ah,the attraction of The Riddle of the Sands. Funny enough I used to works with one of far removed Childer's offspring.

I'm more Sir Richard Burton, Harry St Kim Philby dude (in my own lunch).

Actually, stuff the desert FROOG. I like my showers twice daily and appreciate a very cold, well mixed g & t too much.

You know. On the lounger at sunset, good drink in one hand, weapons grade spliff in the other, and a good coconut madras curry being whipped up by the help.

The regular remittance cheque in the mail box.

God, was I pleased to seen the end of Chinese food (over rated rubbish). Korean Food is a definite improvement.

Since you don't head over to the other side much (if ever?), you have probably missed one of my most infamous posts - on why Chinese food is SHITE.
