This does lead you to wonder what he was drinking. Did he bring back tequila from the New World along with the potato? Or did he invent poteen? And what were the Irish eating before this?? So many unanswered questions.....

But what about the fifth, sixth, seventh, etc.? He was remarkably silent about them... .

Yes, I assume paralysis and/or amnesia had taken over by then. He must have been drinking very large measures of something very strong. Or perhaps tequila slammers.....
